About

Manchester City Council and Far East Consortium (FEC) are working together to regenerate a large area of Manchester, running north of the city centre along the River Irk Valley. Known as Victoria North, it is the largest renewal project Manchester has ever seen. The Collyhurst community is at the heart of this exciting project.

Victoria North is set to transform the neighbourhoods running north of the city centre along the River Irk, from Red Bank and New Cross up to Collyhurst.

The regeneration journey started in 2018, when Manchester City Council and FEC came together to develop a Strategic Regeneration Framework (SRF) for the whole Victoria North area. At that point, the project was known as the Northern Gateway.

What are the plans for Collyhurst?

With a strong and proud community at its heart, the regeneration plans seek to make Collyhurst better for existing and future residents alike. This is an opportunity to make Collyhurst a well-connected, active and fully integrated city neighbourhood that will become capable of supporting the shops, services and amenities that residents want to see.

New facilities for retail, health, education and leisure will support a renewed vibrancy and growth of the community and add to the community spirit that is already abundant in these neighbourhoods.

Regeneration will include a brand new park in Collyhurst along with improvements to other green spaces to make them more accessible and appealing to the whole community.

In early 2020, consultation started on the first phase of the regeneration activity: including a development of new homes and a community park in Collyhurst Village and a smaller development of new homes in South Collyhurst. These developments received planning approval in 2021 and so the transformation of Collyhurst is now getting underway.

Further phases of new development will come forward following extensive consultation with the local community.
