Step into Collyhurst’s historic past

In June this year, we got to turn back the clock and discover the history of the Collyhurst Village site. We were joined on-site by Graham Mottershead of Salford Archaeology, an organisation within the University of Salford’s professional enterprise division, as we unearthed the old basements of the houses that used to occupy this space. Salford Archaeology made some exciting discoveries during their time on-site – which we now want to share with you.

Oswald’s Grove

Tea pot and ornament found during the dig

The area within the site that was most interesting to Salford Archeology was where Oswald’s Grove once stood. Oswald’s Grove was a cobbled street of terraced houses, built around 1871. The tenants back then included a lawyer, a mechanic, and a retired surgeon.
